On October 23, 2018, the opening ceremony of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge—the world's longest sea-crossing bridge—took place in Zhuhai. President Xi Jinping attended the ceremony and officially announced the bridge's opening. As a strategic supplier for the traffic engineering of the main project of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, Far East Smart Energy Co., Ltd. (referred to as "Smart Energy," stock code: 600869) provided high-quality products and services for this landmark project.

Spanning the Lingdingyang waters of the Pearl River Estuary, the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge connects Hong Kong in the east with Zhuhai and Macao in the west. It is a major sea-crossing transportation project jointly developed for the first time by the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao region under the framework of "One Country, Two Systems," and also the longest sea-crossing bridge in the world. The bridge is 55 kilometers long, integrating bridges, artificial islands, and tunnels. The main offshore bridge-tunnel section is 35.578 kilometers long, featuring three cable-stayed bridges, with all bridge structures made of steel. Designed to withstand magnitude-8 earthquakes and Category-16 typhoons, the bridge has a design service life of 120 years. The completion and opening of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge further improves the national and regional comprehensive transportation system and highway network, holding significant strategic importance for the coordinated development of Hong Kong, Zhuhai, and Macao.

Smart cables for intelligent transportation produced by Far East Cable, a subsidiary of Far East Smart Energy, were comprehensively applied across nearly 30 kilometers of the main bridge, covering facilities such as lighting, power supply and distribution, and integrated toll and communication centers, with the supply value exceeding 100 million RMB. Meanwhile, the company’s technical and service team also participated in system design, providing integrated solutions to support the project’s operation.

The Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge project is currently the largest, most technologically complex, and most challenging electromechanical installation project among China’s expressways. To successfully fulfill its responsibilities, Far East’s technical service team adhered to the service principle of "responding to every inquiry, fulfilling every request, and implementing the first-point-of-contact accountability system," ensuring high-quality service throughout the project lifecycle. Far East’s Technical Service Department dispatched multiple teams of engineers in batches to the main traffic engineering site of the bridge, assisting China Railway Construction Corporation Limited in comprehensive technical services including cable system selection, construction, installation guidance, and commissioning.

Prior to receiving the project order, Far East had already established a dedicated "Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge" project team, led by the General Manager, with key personnel from technical, production, and quality departments assigned to the special project. By early 2015, after winning the bid, Far East spent over a year and a half on technical parameter design, on-site surveys, and performance verification for cable and accessory compatibility, fully preparing for on-site construction.

In product design and development, due to the complex on-site environment, Far East conducted more than ten sample trials over nearly three months of R&D, completing each round within 3–4 days through overtime work. Ultimately, the entire process—from product design to completion—was finished in less than four months, with all subsequent delivered products passing inspection, ensuring smooth project progress.

In on-site construction and testing, Far East demonstrated exceptional dedication. Due to environmental factors, the bridge could expand or contract by up to 1.5 meters between winter and summer, requiring cables to accommodate significant flexibility. After multiple on-site inspections and discussions with China Railway Construction’s electrical installation team, Far East finalized a serpentine "S-shaped" cable laying method, ensuring sufficient slack and ingeniously overcoming environmental challenges.

During testing, since electrical equipment for the bridge’s main traffic engineering was located on piers or inside box girders, Far East engineers carried detection equipment weighing dozens of kilograms back and forth, walking up to tens of kilometers daily. Each phase of testing and commissioning was conducted with meticulous care and strict precision, allowing no margin for error.

Far East remains committed to customer-centric values, striving to deliver the highest quality products and services. Guided by this mission, Far East successfully completed the cable-related construction and service tasks for the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, fully ensuring the bridge’s smooth opening.

As a global provider of smart energy and digital city solutions, Far East has supplied intelligent cable products and system solutions to numerous national key projects, including the Three Gorges Hydropower Transmission Project, Shanghai World Expo, Shanghai World Financial Center, Maglev Train, China Zun, and Tiangong-2 space laboratory. Going forward, guided by national strategies such as "Made in China 2025" and the "Belt and Road Initiative," Far East will continue to innovate and forge ahead, making greater contributions to national and socioeconomic development.
